Abstract : The first synthesis and X-ray analysis of a koilate, i. e. a linear array in the solid state, resulting from an iterative assembling of a koiland (hollow molecule possessing two divergent cavities based on the double fusion of two p-tert-butylcalix[4]arenes by two silicon atoms), and hexadiyne as connector, as well as two binuclear complexes formed in the solid state between the above mentioned koiland and anisol and para-xylene is described.

Abstract : Using both directional hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions, the self assembly of diprotonated 1,2-Bis(2'-tetrahydropyrimidyl)ethane 1-2H+ with dihydrogenopyrophosphate in the solid state leads to infinite discreet sheets composed of 1-2H+ and dihydrogenopyrophosphate ribbons interconnected through H2P2O72- anions by hydrogen bonds.

"Multicavitand IV : Synthesis of Linear Koilands Obtained by Fusion of Calix[4]arene Derivatives by Silicon Atoms"

F. HAJEK, E. GRAF, M. W. HOSSEINI, Tetrahedron Lett., 1996, 37, 1409-1412.(download .pdf)

Abstract : The synthesis of koilands based on the double fusion of two p-methylcalix[4]arenes, two p-phenylcalix[4]arenes with two silicon atoms, and of compounds composed of two and three calix[4]arene units fused with one and two silicon atoms, respectively was achieved.

"Synthesis of an Exo-ditopic Receptor Based on Calix[4]arene and Catechol"

G. MISLIN, E. GRAF, M. W. HOSSEINI, Tetrahedron Lett., 1996, 37, 4503-4506.(download .pdf)

Abstract : The synthesis of a calix[4]arene derivative immobilised in 1,3-alternate conformation by alkylation at the lower rim and bearing four catechoylamid units at the upper rim was achieved. The chelating coordination sites were by construction oriented, in an alternating mode, below and above the main plane of the backbone, thus affording an exo-ditopic ligand.

"An Approach to Electronic Communication Through Transannular Hydrogen Bond : Synthesis of Cyclic Diamines Bearing Donor and Acceptor Groups"

R. SCHNEIDER, M. W. HOSSEINI J.-M. PLANEIX, Tetrahedron Lett., 1996, 37, 4721-4724. (download .pdf)

Abstract : The synthesis of medium-size monocyclic diamines based on 1,6-diazacyclodecane core and bearing either nitrophenyl acceptor and methoxyphenyl donor groups or two donor or acceptor groups was achieved and their structure studied in the solid state by X-ray crystallography.

"Simultaneous Binding of Boron and Alkaline Metal Cations by a Macrocyclic Ligand Bearing Catechol Units: Structural Analysis of Borocryptates"

E. GRAF, M. W. HOSSEINI, A. DE CIAN, J. FISCHER, Bul. Soc. Chim. Fr., 1996, 133, 743-748.

Abstract : A podand type ligand based on the [22] diaza-tetraoxa macrocycle bearing two pendant catechol units was shown to bind simultaneously and in a inclusive fashion boron and alkaline metal cations. A detailed solid state structural analysis of the potassium, rubidium and the caesium complexes is reported.
